User Review: East Rain® Squid Swimbait Hard Lures – Field Test and Honest Thoughts

I’ve been chasing big predatory fish in both saltwater and freshwater for years, and I’m always on the lookout for reliable hard lures that can handle tough conditions. Recently, I got my hands on the East Rain® Squid Swimbait Hard Lures – a 14cm, 40g squid imitation with some clever design features. Here’s my real-world experience after several trips targeting bass, pike, and inshore saltwater species.

Build Quality and Materials
The lure is made from tough ABS plastic, which feels solid and environmentally friendly compared to cheaper alternatives. The translucent body with internal light reflection gives it a natural glow underwater, and the vivid multicolor options (I tested color A and D) really pop in clear water. The 3D eyes are securely glued, and the school-of-fish paint pattern is a nice touch for attracting predators.

The through-wire construction and double-ring connections add serious strength – I hooked into a 15lb pike and it held without any bending or failure. Equipped with two treble hooks that are super sharp and rust-resistant, perfect for saltwater use.

Action and Performance
What impressed me most is the swimming action. The internal steel balls shift to the tail on cast, helping with distance (I was getting easy 80+ foot casts), and then create a lively wobble and rattle on retrieve. Slow rolling or steady troll produces a realistic squid jetting motion with tentacles fluttering – deadly for lingering fish.

I caught several largemouth bass in freshwater ponds by slow-rolling it over weed edges, and in saltwater, it drew strikes from redfish and speckled trout while trolling. The lure stays stable at various speeds without blowing out.
